Kaitiakitaiao (Natural Resources Coordinator) – Te Aupouri Group

To coordinate the implementation of a Te Aupouri Environmental Plan. Also, to provide policy and planning advice for Te Aupouri Group. Engagement with local and central Government, Te Hiku Iwi counterparts and other stakeholders in giving effect to Aupouri Kaitiaki obligations in relation to the natural environment, customary practices, wahi tapu and sites of significance.
12 months (Fixed Term Contract initially, the potential to become permanent)

Essential Criteria
• Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
• Hold a clean current drivers’ licence.
• Strong analytical and research skills, takes a methodical approach to work and attention to detail
• Project experience and ability
• Able to draft reports and background discussion documents
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation and consultation skills – able to comfortably present to varied audiences
• High level of computer literacy and familiarity with the micro-soft suite of software, including word, excel, powerpoint and visio (Preferable).
• Ability to translate māori knowledge and world views into the mainstream environment and frameworks.
• Has knowledge of tikanga Māori and kaupapa Māori principles.
• Highly committed to completing tasks within tight timeframes – accountable and responsible.

Desirable
• At least 2 years’ experience working in a resource management, central or local government environmental role or Iwi organisational work
• Sound knowledge of the RMA and other statutes relating to the environment
• A reasonable level and/or understanding of Te Reo Māori
